Why we run that ad.

You may already have seen that sidebar graphic with Keira Knightley. If you haven't, you will—it ain't going away anytime soon.

Some folk thought it was just an eye-candy placeholder. Fuck, I wish it was—sadly though, it fronts a darker, sicker reality.

It links to CutMovie, the campaign by Brit-based Women's Aid to do something about the fact that in the UK two women die every week from domestic violence. (I don't know the US stats, but I'm sure it's horrendous.)

Simply, it's a hard-hitting short film directed by BAFTA-winning director Joe Wright in which KK is on the wrong end of someone's fist. If you've not yet seen it, here's the link.

A note of caution… it ain't pretty, and personally I can't get too far into it without openly crying. Four billion years of evolution and we do shit like this? I'm appalled and ashamed to be a bloke. In the circumstances, the least I can do is give free webspace and send 'em some cash.
